Snowfall at night might be the prettiest thing you've ever seen and now you can have it on your nails at ALL times. Nail artist Simcha Whitehill aka Miss Pop shows and tells Cosmo exactly how to copy this sexy mani.
1. Prep and paint. "After you've filed your nails into the desired shape, pushed back your cuticles" — remember, DO NOT CUT THEM!— "and applied a basecoat, grab a dotter tool and with the large and small end of a dotter tool, dip each end into a white opaque polish and, starting a little bit back from the cuticle, begin to create white dots across the center of each nail," Whitehill says. Used here was CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Snow Storm.
2. Dot on light gray circles. "Wipe off the dotter tool with nail polish remover, and then using the same technique that you used in step two, dip the ends of the dotter tool in a light gray polish and toward the tip of the nail — and overlapping some of the white circles — make large and small dots," Whitehill says. Try Orly Nail Lacquer in Mirror Mirror.
3. Create charcoal dots. "Using the dotter tool again, wipe it clean before you dip both ends into a charcoal-colored polish to make tiny and big dots at the tip of your nail, creating a gradated effect," she says. Used here was Deborah Lippmann Nail Color in Stormy Weather.
4. Add black. With the same techniques used above, take the dotter tool and dip it into a black polish and add dark dots to the tip of your nail, covering some of the charcoal-colored dots.

41 Cosmo Readers Who Nailed Their Nail Art

CARLY CARDELLINO / JANUARY 17, 2014

Need some nail inspiration? Here are 41 pictures of the sexiest/coolest/most talented nail art that readers tweeted at Cosmo. Enjoy!

Want to switch up your usual smoky eye for something a little lighter, but still super sexy?Makeup artist Lauren Cosenza shows you how to perfectly create a golden cat eye with ease.
1. Press gold pigments onto the center of the eyelid and the inner corner of your eye.Ariel blended on Bare Escentuals True Gold Eyeshadow and MAC Cosmetics Pigment in Blonde’s Gold using a flat eyeshadow brush.
2. Dust matte brown eyeshadow into the crease of your eye and onto outer corner with a crease brush, plus run beneath lower lashline. Try NYX Cosmetics' Nude Matte Shadow in Underneath it All.
3. Add depth by subtly layering black eyeshadow onto the outer corner of your eye and blending. Ariel used a smudge brush to apply MAC Cosmetics Carbon here.
4. Sweep a matte cream eyeshadow over your browbone. Ariel used a blending brushto apply MAC Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Blanc Type.
5. Make the gold pigments that are already on your eye pop with added shimmer, using Victoria’s Secret Hypergloss Eyegloss in Golden Lights.
6. Create a cat eye. "Swipe Benefit Magic Ink Jet Black Liquid Eyeliner along your top lashline, and then up and outward for a precise winged look," Cosenza says. "Clean up with Almay Remover swabs, and then finish with black mascara on your upper and lowerlashes." Ariel used L’OrĂ©al Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara.
Done! A gorgeous golden cat eye that will light up a room in under five minutes flat!

Basically, no one should be wearing these looks because they're not cute.

1. White frosty eyeshadow directly underneath the browbone.
This just isn't cute on ANYONE because it makes you look like you're saying, "Beam me up, Scotty" with your eye makeup. No one's eyes should glow like this. Ever. Instead, go for highlighting earthtone shadows, like a bone-colored one for light skin and medium skin tones, and a taupe-shaded eyeshadow for darker skin. Try these bone and taupe shades from Bobbi Brown.
2. Diamond-encrusted eye embellishments.
Unless you're J.Lo in the Waiting For Tonight video or Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella, diamond-encrusted embellishments should take up zero real estate on your face around your eye area.
3. Thick french tips
In my eyes, anything with the word French in front of it is absolutely amazing (i.e. French Fries, French braid, French kiss), but that's not always the case with French manicures. This style really only looks sophisticated when the white is just a thin line at the edge of your nail — not monopolizing half of your nailbed.
4. Multicolored eyelids.
Yes, painting with all the colors of the wind is load of fun, but it doesn't look good when the canvas is your eyelid. If you want to go for a multi-tonal eye for night, chose two or three shades within the same color family, so that the shades don't look too severe against each other, and be sure to blend them so the colors seamlessly gradate into one another. Want an example?
5. Icy eyeshadow in the inner "V" corner of the eye.
Yes, you want to highlight and draw attention to your eyes, but applying a severe silver shadow to the inner corner of your eyes isn't the way to go. Instead, opt for a more champagne-y pink shadow or a soft gold. These two shades aren't as harsh as silver — plus, they have undertones that blend in with skin better, accenting it instead of illuminating it in a major, unnatural way.
6. OD'ing on bronzer.
It's one thing to be this tan (which you shouldn't ever be, because too much time in the sun can cause skin cancer), but it's an entirely different story when you add bronzer into the makeup mix as well. 1. If you are this tan, bronzer will only make you look darker, which will look unnatural. 2. Adding in bronzer with shimmer will make you resemble either a bronze or living statue that you'd see perform for money in Times Square. If you're addicted to bronzer and can't quit it, at least go for a matte version, to soften the bronze blow.
7. The Mob Wives makeup look.
If you're going to go for a heavy, statement-making eye, by all means go girl. But whatever you do, don't pair it with a hot pink hue like this one above. You want to pick one feature and play it up; that way your look isn't overwhelming. So, if you want to go with heavy eye liner — here are 15 chic ways to wear it, by the way —  keep your lip muted with a taupe, nude, or dusty rose. Want a loud lip? Spring for a cat eye or line the innner upper rim of your eye only (to make your lashes look fuller — for a tutorial on this, click here) and then layer on mascara.
8. Noticeable contouring.
The whole point of contouring your face is to manipulate light, bringing out your best features and adding shadows where you need to accentuate, like under your cheekbones. But it should be a seamless gradation of light and dark, not a harsh swipe of bronzer a la Lilo bronzed job. Need a tutorial in contouring? Ask and you shall receive.
9. Unrealistic eyelashes.
Unless it's Halloween, feather eyelashes are a no. If you want to accentuate your lashes, pick up and glue on a strip of lashes that are a realistic length and call it a day. These kinds just feel too try-hard and that's not what the Cosmo girl does.
10. Overly drawn on eye brows

12. Eyeshadow up to your eyebrows.
You're not Jem and the Holograms, so don't apply your makeup like you're the lead singer in a '80s television series (aka don't blend your eyeshadow up to your eyebrows, especially if it's a bold color like hot pink). Instead, save that look for your BFF's bachelorette party and apply your pop of color only up to the crease of your eye. This makes colored eyeshadow wearable instead of straight-up scary.
13. The bottom buzz cut.
I'm not sure what the purpose of this haircut is, other than if you get neck sweats (is that even a thing?). So, for the love of all things holy, please stop with this cut. That and the side shave; these styles are both tired. Instead, just pull all of your hair up into a high bun, like Max Anthony does.

5 Things You NEED to Make Sure Your Manicurist Does

Ever wonder WTF your manicurist is actually doing to your nails while you're sitting there catching up on the latest issue of Cosmo? Well, here's what she or he should be doing. Take notes, girls, because these tips can not only help prevent unsightly splitting toward the tips of your nails, they can make your mani last longer, and even prevent a nasty infection.

Make sure your manicurist...
1. Uses clean tools and has a fresh paper or cloth towel laid out for you to rest your hands on. Using tools that someone else previously used is unsanitary, gross, and should NEVER happen. Also, no one wants to lay their hands on a dirty salon placemat.
2. Files your nails in one direction. "A technician should never saw the nail file back and forth because this causes tearing and tiny rips that can lead to peeling, jagged, and broken nails," nail pro Simcha Whitehill, aka Miss Pop, says. Instead, she suggests filing in one direction (left to right or vice versa) over the entire tip of your nail to file it into the desired shape while making it smooth.
3. Pushes back your cuticles. "NEVER EVER cut them," she says. "Cutting your cuticles is the easiest way to invite bacteria into your body, since your cuticle is meant to stay intact and seal your skin. Pushing them back is always the safest way to go." For more on why you or your manicurist should never cut your cuticles, click here.

4. Uses a basecoat. "This not only protects your nail from staining, but it helps give your colored polish something to adhere to so that it stays on longer," she says.

5. Runs a topcoat over the free edge (or tip) of your nail. Extending the application of a topcoat over the tip of your nail helps seal in the color, so if you type a lot at work and the ends of your nails are always banging against your keyboard, your paint will be less likely to chip because there is a protective barrier keeping it intact.

Employ these tips at your next nail appointment and your mani money will be well spent. Trust.
